The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is quite another. The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month. Henry Van Dyke
Spring has returned. The Earth is like a child that knows poems. Rainer Maria Rilke
If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot in the spring and stay that way later in the fall. I would go to more dances. I would ride more merry-go-rounds. I would pick more daisies. Nadine Stair
If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome. Anne Bradstreet
In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt. Margaret Atwood
From whence arrived the praying mantis?
From outer space, or lost Atlantis?
glimpse the grin, green metal mug
at masks the pseudo-saintly bug,
Orthopterous, also carnivorous,
And faintly whisper, Lord deliver us.
Ogden Nash
Spring is nature’s way of saying, “Let’s party!” Robin Williams
Great photos and words! Your children look so happy and carefree 🙂
Thank you! They are always happy and carefree. I even feel like running around the front lawn this morning. The last bit of snow is almost melted! Yippee!
great shots and quotes! We’re only just getting some crocuses out, the first sign of spring here, even though they’ll grow up through the snow sometimes.
I would love to get a shot of a crocus growing up through the snow.
Remember Spring? Ahhhh, yes. And at the end of the day I do smell like dirt. Love it! Love the pics of your kids!
I barely remember Spring (these pics are all from last year!) It’s coming back to me slowly now. 🙂
Truth: In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt. Margaret Atwood
Lovely poems and pictures.
Thanks so much! I love the Atwood quote too.
I’m over here via Charles’ blog ‘Mostly Bright Ideas’. I love this post. Wonderful photos and words. (The second photo from the top is fabulously brightly coloured. Like a painting!)
Thanks for visiting, Val. The second photo is a shot of the flowers on my front porch, very vivid and gorgeous colors.
My son and I just got back from the family cabin in Yosemite, where record snowfall (finally) meant roaring, rushing torrents of water. As a native Californian, this springtime rush is unbelievably thrilling because it means long showers even in autumn, growing things even in the summer, and, right now, the blessed laugh of dry land creeks.
I can almost hear the water rushing with your words. Sounds like heaven.
Not easy to capture something like spring, but you’ve done it.
Thanks, Charles. It is almost feeling like spring again up here. Hallelujah!!
Hi,

Love the Margaret Atwood quote! smell like dirt. I’ll have to share that one with my mom 🙂
Thank you, Darla. You’ve brought a smile. Or many, as the comments above prove. Happy Year to you.
Priya, you always have such a thoughtful and positive comment. I really appreciate that. I hope there’s lots of sun and warmth and good weather where you are (and could you please send it over here, it was only 35 degrees today!)
