2012 Blog Review (Or What the Hell? The Year’s Over Already?!)

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

4,329 films were submitted to the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. This blog had 49,000 views in 2012. If each view were a film, this blog would power 11 Film Festivals

Click here to see the complete report.

–This blog had a high of 3,838 views on May 8th. If each view were a Twinkie, every view would be inside my belly right now.

—My most popular search word was Friends. So I plan on using the Friends show and/or Jennifer Aniston’s boobs as a tag for all future posts.

—I wrote over 100 posts this past year. Much better than the previous two years where I averaged only 30 posts for the entire year. Looks like the key to blogging success is to actually blog, who knew?

—My top commenter was Pegoleg of Peg-o-leg’s Ramblings with 296 comments.

Peg

So I’d like to take this moment to say:
I LOVE YOU, PEG! Deeply, truly, madly.
And there’s still time for you to leave, say, four more comments so I can get a nice round number of 300.

—Maybe it’s the Big Ball Drop tonight…maybe it’s the champagne already going to my head…but I tend to get all sentimental when the number on the calendar changes year after year. I’d like to say a sincere thank you to everyone that visits my blog. I wouldn’t still be doing this if it wasn’t for your constant positive support. You’ve all given me confidence in my writing I didn’t know I had. And I know, I’m being serious and it’s making everyone a bit uncomfortable, but that’s the truth. (sniffing, wiping a tear) I love you, man!

Happy New Year! Have a toast on me tonight at midnight because I will be already passed out on the couch, drooling onto my bathrobe.

  1. Congratulations on such an impressive year! You really know how to throw a blogging party and I love it when my reader shows there’s another one…Quirky or sentimental, I love coming over. Good luck in ’13.

  2. You should have confidence in your writing; you manage to be funny, touching and thoughtful all at once. That’s an art!
    Good for you!
Happy New Year to you and your family!!

  3. Wow. That’s one he’ll of a lot of Twinkies!!

Thank YOU, dear Darla. I am so very glad I found your blog, and more than that, that I found you as a friend. My life is richer and funnier with you in it! (See? You’re not the only one who can do sappy). 😉

Here’s to a fun and prosperous new year!! I will have a drink for you at midnight. Because I’m a friend! 🙂 Cheers!!

  4. Happy New Year, DP! 100+ posts in 2012? That is seriously impressive. The blogosphere is a much, much better place because of you.

And guess who MY top commenter is? Guess. YES! YOU!!! Peggles is #2. Peggles, do ya hear that? You’ve got some serious competition for 2013. You should probably start stockpiling comments now.

  5. Nice stats! I wish I knew how many Twinkies my site stats translated into, but I don’t have that skill set. This is one of the many reasons why I continue to visit your blog.

  6. Congrats on a great year, Darla! I’ve enjoyed sharing it with you.

I’ve been away from the blogosphere over the holidays but hope to get back on track this week. I’ve missed you. Happy New Year, my friend.

    Hugs,
    Kathy

  7. Tar-Buns

I have enjoyed following your antics this past year, Ms. Darliciousness.
Happy to see my fabulous sister was the top commenter on your site.
Ms. Pegoleg has been battling a vicious flu/sinus crud since last weekend so that is why you haven’t heard from her in person.
I’ll let her tell you all about it.
Happy, Joyous, and Healthy New Year to you! 🙂

      1. Even though we spent a week in Michigan, I think I saw Tar for a grand total of 5 minutes due to a combination of her being up to her eyeballs in kitchen renovations and her avoiding the plague ship that my parent’s home turned into. Coward.

  8. Darla, sweetie! It was a total pleasure stalking your blog in 2012. I’m ashamed I didn’t get here in time to make those stats nice round numbers for the year-end. I have been out of commission for almost a week with the flu/sinus infection from hell.

Thanks for putting you wise/witty/warm spin on the last year. I can’t wait to see what you’ve got up your sleeve for 2013!

  9. It’s been such a fun and wild ride on Darla’s big adventures! I love reading your humor, your ghost tales, and your top ten lists, oh, and watching you twirl batons in plaid jackets! Here’s to another funtabulous year!! XOXO-SWM

    1. FP is a big lift, (then a huge crash) but after the stats fade I’m just grateful for meeting so many amazing people here. Thanks, Lorna, you have always been so supportive and that means a lot to me!

  10. You were one of the first handful of blogs I followed when I stepped into the WP world. I still heart your blog, your vlogs, your clogs (you do have clogs, right?). Whenever this south Texas chick needs to touch base with the bah hahbah fah northeast region, I’ll check in here first.
“Jennifer Aniston’s boobs.” You are a hoot.

  11. Pah! Not even in the top 5? This cannot, this shall not, this WILL not stand! I shall comment until I gain at LEAST the #5 spot. I swear this before you, before this blog, and before Almighty God, that this blog WILL have a new day of a top commenter!
(Wow – go over the top much? 😀 )
Seriously, congrats on some great stats. Your blog is what MY blog wants to be, once it grows up. (Hey, it’s gotta grow up, ’cause I sure as heck ain’t gonna! 😉 )

    1. Ooh, with this comment you are nearing the top already, John. Seriously, you are in my top commenters currently, dontcha just feel so dang special? 😉

And your blog is already lightyears ahead of where mine was when I first started. I only managed to crank out maybe 1 or 2 posts a month on average back then and had 2 followers for three months. (one was my cousin)

      1. My blog friends always make me feel special! (Sure, most of the time it’s “short bus” special, but even so…) 😉
In my humble opinion, everybody should start out as a serial commenter. (As opposed to a cereal commenter, which is a whole ‘nother bowl altogether.) That way, you not only gain a following, but you quickly learn what works, and more importantly, what DOESN’T! 😀

      2. I laugh at how naive I was in my bloggy beginning..I had no clue I should be visiting other blogs or that I should be commenting. I didn’t even realize just anybody could read my blog. I considered it as a diary that no one would read. I pretty much abandoned my blog after 2 months, then came crawling back.

Tell me about it.
